Is your hairdresser too busy for you??

As a salon owner is amazes me just how often new clients complain that their last hairdresser/salon didn't have time for them!!

I am not just talking about couldn't fit them in I'm talking about rude individuals, and salon owners that are either blind or ignorant to what is happening!

Too often clients walk in the salon and amazingly, the staff don't even acknowledge that they have walked in let alone the fact that they have probably been standing there quite a while, so what do you do as a client?? Wait and wait and wait some more?? WALK OUT!!   I know what I would do and that would be to walk out, you wouldn't be the first or the last!  How is it that you can walk into a business with multiple staff and there is only one other customer there but for some reason the other staff cannot pull themselves away from what they are doing for a moment to help someone... a potential client??  People tell me this exact story all the time!

Ok so lets say you managed to get reasonable service the first time you made contact, you are now in the chair having your hair done...  there are 2 bad scenarios here...

1- At the moment she sits down to talk to you about your hair and you think YESSSS this is the one, she actually is going to sit here and listen to what I want!  BUT... then over and over again she keeps looking out the window, and you ignore it a few times, and she looks out the window again, so you look too, what could be so important that she cannot look at me and listen, but there is nothing there... ooohhhh, she is looking for her friends? Or thinking about the weekend? Of what a beautiful day it is to be at the beach!?  So you know the outcome... another hairdresser that didn't listen, and as a result you didn't get what you wanted AGAIN!!

2- SHE DOESN'T EVEN CARE ENOUGH TO TALK TO YOU!!!! You know what I am talking about, you know the one where she talks to all the other people in the salon except for you! Other staff, other clients! Just having a good old chat leaving you feeling invisible and sitting in silence...  then you start thinking... Is she paying attention to what she is doing? Is she going to do it right? OMG what if she cuts it too short!?

Let me tell you something from personal experience... no hairdresser can deliver exactly what you want without firstly doing a proper consultation to establish your wants and needs, you know, one where the hairdresser actually listens, and secondly without paying attention, without attention mistakes are made.

If you do not have your hairdressers full attention, it is time to find a new one!!

things your hairdresser has been hiding from you

One thing that still amazes new clients every day , is how much SIMPLE info their hairdresser has been hiding from them! And I mean really SIMPLE!

Did you know that you should start brushing from the bottom up so that you aren't compacting the knots at the bottom (makes sense right?)?  Did you also know that you should towel dry your hair after shampooing to remove excess water so that you don't dilute your conditioner?  Think about this one for a moment.... your hairdresser towel dries before conditioning (well most do) and you leave the salon with amazing feeling hair, you go home and wash your hair and use half a bottle of conditioner to try and get the same feeling!  Think a little more... how much money could you save on conditioner just by towel drying your hair so that the conditioner isn't just being washed down the drain!?

Lets do the math on that for a moment... Ok so you spend anywhere between $5 & $30 for a bottle of conditioner so lets say an average of $17 and you are buying a new bottle every 2-3 weeks, so you've probably brought 4 bottles in three months, that's $70 just on conditioner!

I'll let you in on another secret... if you towel dry your hair prior to putting your conditioner on, you only apply conditioner on your mid lengths and ends, use the recommended amount for your length hair, and only wash every 3 days (also recommended, but that is for another day) 1 bottle of conditioner will last you close to 3 MONTHS!  That's right...
1 BOTTLE OF CONDITIONER = 3 MONTHS
Think of the money you could save!

Lets recap:
1)  Towel Dry after Shampooing
2)  Condition Mid Lengths & Ends (see recommended amounts below)
3)  Wash every 3 days

Now this isn't just about saving money, I was serious when I said this is how the hairdresser gets your hair feeling amazing!  The reason for conditioner is that is helps to close the outer layer of your hair and lock in the moisture from itself keeping your hair hydrated and frizz free.  So if you go ant put conditioner on to soaking wet hair and most of it washes down the drain, what benefit is that going to have on your hair?  That's right! NO BENIFIT!!

Now is the time to make the change, it will help to hydrate your hair and protect it from the summer sun and your new routine will be well established heading into winter to minimise frizz.

Recommended amount of Conditioner
Short Hair - 10c piece
Medium Hair (shoulder length) - 20c piece
Long/Thick Hair - 50c piece
